The Nuts and Bolts
WHAT IS YOUR SESSION FEE?
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
I do not accept insurance and I am not an in-network provider for insurance. However, many clients get a significant portion of their fees reimbursed by their insurance companies through their out-of-network benefits.
To find out if your insurance will reimburse part of my fee, please call your insurance company and ask them what percentage is covered for an “out of network mental health provider” and if you have a deductible you have to meet. I will provide you with a monthly “superbill” to help you get reimbursed. That’s a document insurance companies will ask you for to get reimbursement.
I do accept Lyra Health, an Employee Assistance Program which is offered by many large Bay Area companies and is also offered to University of California students. (I love working with UCSF students having formerly worked at UCSF Student Health!)
what is a Good faith estimate?
If you are not using your insurance for reimbursement for my services, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. I am happy to provide you with one.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. The Estimate must be furnished within one business day of scheduling a service to be provided in three business days, or within three business days of scheduling a service to be provided in at least 10 business days. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
